Nursing Career Opportunities at Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital

Palliative Care

This is a new unit designed to provide physical, psychosocial and spiritual care for patients with life-threatening illnesses and their families. Average length of stay in this eight-bed unit is expected to be five to 10 days. Nurses work in 12-hour shifts, and due to the small size of the unit, enjoy a family atmosphere. To work in this unit, a nurse will need emotional strength in order to interact with patients at the end of life.

3rd Floor and 4th Floor – Long-Term Acute Care

Our two 25-bed LTAC units serve a constantly varying population of patients who have serious medical needs. Nurses will need to become proficient in bedside hemodialysis, wound care, telemetry, ventilator care, IV and critical care drips, trach and ventilator weaning and treatment of infections and chronic conditions. Patients range in age from 26 to 95 and stay 25 or more days. Typical diagnoses include end-stage renal disease, COPD, wound infections, osteomyelitis, pneumonia and respiratory failure.

Nurses work 12-hour shifts with self-scheduling. Highsmith-Rainey has a reputation for friendliness, quality care, humor and compassion, and we are looking for additional nurses who exhibit those qualities!

Intensive Care Unit

Our eight-bed Intensive Care Unit cares for the very sickest patients in Highsmith-Rainey’s Long-Term Acute Care Units. Nurses are expected to be proficient in working with ventilators, critical drips and cardiac monitors. Most patients are over age 60 and can have medical or surgical diagnoses. About half of our patients are admitted from an acute care facility, such as Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. The other half are transferred from the 3rd floor or 4th floor LTAC units when they become unstable. Nurses work 12-hour shifts.

ExpressCare

ExpressCare of Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital is the only 24-hour urgent care center in Fayetteville. On average, 80 patients are treated each day, and may range in age from children to geriatrics. Patients may present with sore throats, cold or flu symptoms, sprains and strains, lacerations or any medical condition of an urgent nature. We enjoy a low staff turnover rate, so openings are infrequent.

Ambulatory Care Unit & GI Lab

Nurses in our Ambulatory Surgery Unit provide highly skilled preoperative and postoperative care to patients who have undergone a variety of surgical procedures, including general, cosmetic, ophthalmology and ENT surgery. This unit also includes before and after care for GI procedures performed in our on-site GI suites. Our specialty GI physicians and nurses work collaboratively in performing GI procedures and evaluating a range of digestive health illnesses. Patients and their families are our first priority, and our patient satisfaction scores are among the highest in the health system. Bring your heart and join our award-winning team!

Observation Unit

When patients require an extended recovery period (24 to 48 hours) following short-stay surgery, they are cared for in our Observation Unit. This five-bed unit boasts all private rooms. Our team of caring, responsive nurses emphasize postoperative pain control and a pleasant recovery experience. In addition to our post-surgical patients, we care for patients during outpatient blood transfusions. Join our team, as we exceed our patients’ expectations ... and yours!
